A few decades ago, scientists warned that mass migration would cause a global crisis. They were wrong, and we need to update our thinking. “The Next Great Migration” by Sonia Shah shows that movement has always been the norm for all life on Earth, including people. Rather than being a problem, migration is a crucial solution to much of what plagues ecosystems and economies. We will work together to improve our understanding and put that deepened knowledge into practice. It’s not just our faith tradition that tells us to “welcome the stranger”; science and reason come to the same conclusion.
